BRUSSELS – The European Commission has announced that Portugal is among nine Member States set to receive technical support for the implementation of the EU migration pact. This initiative aims to assist countries in preparing their national implementation plans following the pact's entry into force and the adoption of the Common Implementation Plan (CIP) on June 12, 2024. The support will be delivered through the Technical Assistance Instrument, which will provide tailored guidance and specialized advice to the selected Member States. For Portugal, the focus will be on developing a governance model for the national implementation plan, with particular emphasis on six key components, including the common information system on migration and asylum, known as Eurodac. In addition to Eurodac, the technical support will address the establishment of a new system for managing migration flows at the EU's external borders. It will also cover fair asylum procedures, as well as the resettlement, inclusion, and integration of refugees within Portugal. Member States are required to submit their national implementation plans for the EU migration pact to the European Commission by early December, marking a critical step in the ongoing efforts to enhance migration management across the EU.
