12-Year-Old Electrocuted at Jabalpur Water Fountain; Family Protests

A tragic incident occurred in Jabalpur when a 12-year-old boy was electrocuted by a faulty water fountain in a park managed by the Municipal Corporation. The boy, accompanied by friends, interacted with the newly installed fountain, which had been operational for only ten days. Upon touching the water, he experienced a severe electric shock that caused him to fall several feet away. Despite immediate efforts by bystanders to rush him to a district hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The boy's family was devastated by the news and quickly arrived at the hospital. They, along with community members, organized a protest against the Municipal Corporation, accusing the workers of negligence for failing to ensure the safety of the water fountain. The family demanded accountability, calling for the suspension of those responsible for the installation and maintenance of the fountain, as well as legal action against them. In response to the escalating protest, local officials, including Gorakhpur SDM Pankaj Mishra and MLA Rakesh Singh, arrived at the scene. The MLA announced a relief package of Rs 2 Lakh for the victim's family and instructed the Municipal Corporation Commissioner to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. This intervention aimed to address the family's grievances and restore order in the community. The incident has raised serious concerns about public safety and the responsibilities of municipal workers in maintaining public facilities.
