Story

Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd., headquartered in Tokyo and led by President Yasuhiko Saitoh, has introduced an innovative product known as the ST-OR Type heat-shrinkable silicone rubber tubing. This tubing is specifically designed for busbar covering, marking a significant advancement in the industry. Busbars, which are conductive metallic strips made from materials like copper or aluminum, are essential for power distribution in various applications, including switchboards, control panels, and increasingly in electric and hybrid vehicles. The new tubing addresses the growing demand for enhanced insulation in busbars, particularly in electric vehicles that operate under high currents and voltages. The ST-OR Type tubing boasts impressive electrical insulating properties, with a dielectric strength of 28 kV/mm, and can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to +200°C. Its bright orange exterior not only serves as a visual identifier but also provides an alternative to traditional high-voltage cables. Additionally, the tubing retains the flexibility characteristic of silicone rubber even after heat shrinking, ensuring ease of application. Shin-Etsu Chemical has also developed the ST-TC-1 Type, which is tailored for thermal interface applications, offering both thermal conductivity and electrical insulation. This product is particularly suitable for covering heating components, facilitating efficient heat transfer. The introduction of this innovative tubing is expected to enhance the reliability of power distribution systems while also streamlining the production processes for busbars, ultimately leading to significant labor and time savings.
