On Wednesday, an 18-year-old and a 14-year-old were arrested in connection with two carjackings and an attempted carjacking in Philadelphia and Abington Township. The incidents began around noon when the Abington Township Police responded to a report of a carjacking at the Abington Shopping Center. A woman was approached from behind by the suspects, who stole her bag and keys before fleeing in her vehicle. Fortunately, the victim was unharmed during the encounter. The suspects had arrived at the shopping center in a Nissan Rogue, which had been carjacked approximately an hour earlier in Philadelphia's Olney neighborhood. Following the carjacking, police pursued the suspects as they drove south on Old York Road. Their flight ended when they crashed the stolen vehicle on Bingham Street in the Crescentville neighborhood of Philadelphia. After the crash, the suspects attempted to escape on foot, leading to a chase through the area. Officers managed to apprehend both individuals without further incident after locating them hiding in dense brush along the Tacony Creek Trail. The police investigation revealed that the suspects had also attempted to carjack a third vehicle on Tabor Avenue prior to their arrest. The swift response from law enforcement and the subsequent arrests highlight the ongoing issue of carjackings in urban areas. The suspects face serious charges, including robbery of a motor vehicle, which could lead to significant legal consequences as authorities work to address this troubling trend in crime.
