Story

A man who was allegedly kicked in the head and stamped on by a police officer has been found to have a cyst on his brain, according to a family lawyer. Akhmed Yakoob made the statement outside Rochdale Police Station, revealing that the man, identified as Fahir, underwent a CT scan following the incident. Yakoob described the family as "traumatised," noting that Fahir's older brother, a police officer with Greater Manchester Police, is now fearful of returning to work. The incident, which occurred at Manchester Airport and was captured on video, has sparked widespread outrage after being shared on social media. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that an officer involved in the incident has been suspended. The footage shows a suspect being violently subdued while lying on the ground, prompting significant public concern. GMP acknowledged the distress caused by the video and stated that officers were responding to reports of an assault at the time. Yakoob emphasized that regardless of the circumstances leading up to the incident, "nothing justifies the barbaric treatment from the police officers." Dal Babu, a former Metropolitan Police chief superintendent, echoed this sentiment, asserting that the level of force used was "not reasonable." In response to the incident, Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham announced that he and his deputy have met with the home secretary and the regional director of the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) to ensure a swift and independent investigation involving community stakeholders.
