Climate Activists Vandalize Messi's House in Ibiza
- Climate activists from Vegetable Future targeted Lionel Messi's house in Ibiza.
- The house was vandalized by the group as an act of protest against climate change.
- The incident has raised concerns about the security and privacy of public figures.
Members of the far-left environmentalist group Futuro Vegetal vandalized the Ibiza residence of Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi on Tuesday, marking a bold act of civil disobedience. The group, which advocates for a plant-based food system to combat the climate crisis, defaced Messi's property with red and black paint, labeling it an "illegal" construction. In a statement on Instagram, they criticized the wealthy for their role in the climate crisis, asserting that the powerful are often seen as untouchable while infringing on the rights of the majority. The activists, who took photos of themselves with a banner reading, “Help the planet, eat the rich, abolish the police,” emphasized the need for radical systemic change to address environmental issues. Messi, who purchased the mansion for approximately €11 million in 2022, has been living in the United States since 2023, playing for Inter Miami. As of now, he has not publicly responded to the vandalism. Argentine President Javier Milei condemned the attack, expressing support for Messi and his family. He criticized the actions as cowardly and called on Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to ensure the safety of Argentine citizens in Spain. Milei denounced communism as an ideology rooted in envy and resentment towards successful individuals, reinforcing his stance on the importance of liberty. This incident follows Futuro Vegetal's previous actions, including vandalism at fast-food chains in response to perceived corporate complicity in global issues. The group's tactics have drawn mixed reactions, highlighting the ongoing tensions between environmental activism and public sentiment.
