NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Yankees have activated Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the 10-day injured list, allowing him to return to the lineup against the Colorado Rockies. Chisholm, who had been sidelined due to a sprained left elbow, was set to bat fifth and start at third base in the series opener at Yankee Stadium. He sustained the injury on August 12 during a head-first slide into home plate while scoring against the Chicago White Sox. Initially, X-rays showed no fractures, but the Yankees were cautious about potential surgery until an MRI confirmed there was no damage to his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). Since joining the Yankees from the Miami Marlins on July 27, Chisholm has made a significant impact, boasting a .316 batting average with seven home runs, 11 RBIs, and five stolen bases in just 14 games. Chisholm's performance has been historic; he became the first player in Yankees history to hit seven homers in his first 12 games with the team. Despite being new to the third base position, he has made 13 starts there, showcasing his adaptability. Yankees manager Aaron Boone praised Chisholm's contributions, noting his eagerness to return to play after being placed on the injured list. To accommodate Chisholm's return, the Yankees optioned infielder Oswald Peraza to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Thursday's game.
