Deputies Save Man from Burning Vehicle

LANCASTER, Calif. (KABC) — In a dramatic display of bravery, two Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies rescued a man from a burning vehicle last summer in Lancaster. Body camera footage captured the intense moments when Sgt. Collin Reddy and Deputy Jeremiah Nurse responded to a single-car crash at the intersection of 15th Street West and Avenue J-10. The vehicle had overturned and caught fire, with the driver trapped inside. Sgt. Reddy, who was patrolling the area, quickly assessed the situation and knew immediate action was necessary. "We knew we had to get him out," he stated, emphasizing the urgency of the rescue. Deputy Nurse arrived shortly after, echoing the sentiment of their duty to protect the community. "He's one of our citizens, and we want to make sure that he gets home," Nurse remarked. On Tuesday night, the deputies were celebrated during a ceremony at the College of the Canyons auditorium in Santa Clarita, where they received a warm round of applause from the community. Their courageous actions were formally recognized, marking them as the first recipients of a new award designated for first responders who demonstrate exceptional bravery. Community member Garcia expressed gratitude, stating, "We need more of you. God bless you."
