Chisholm Open to Third Base Role with Yankees Amid Torres' Struggles

Jazz Chisholm Jr. has expressed his willingness to transition to third base for the New York Yankees, emphasizing his commitment to helping the team win. Following a recent victory over the Boston Red Sox, Chisholm stated, "I could go and play anywhere and help my team win," highlighting his readiness to adapt for a competitive team. Yankees manager Aaron Boone has indicated that he wants Chisholm to focus on learning the position, especially given the current challenges faced by second baseman Gleyber Torres. Torres, who has struggled defensively this season with a league-high 13 errors at second base, remains resistant to the idea of switching positions. When asked about the possibility of playing third base, Torres replied, "I'm a second baseman, so I play second," indicating his preference for his current role. Despite his reluctance, Torres acknowledged that he has discussed the matter with Boone and is preparing for the possibility by planning to take grounders at third base. Boone has expressed some hesitation about moving Torres to third, citing his lack of recent experience at the position since a brief stint in the minor leagues in 2018. Meanwhile, Chisholm's background as a shortstop with the Miami Marlins positions him as a more versatile option for the Yankees. Boone noted, "I know he's open to doing it, but I want to see how that looks," as the team navigates its defensive lineup.
