Chrysler recalls over 91,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs amid software concerns

In the United States, Chrysler has issued a recall for approximately 91,787 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid SUVs due to a significant software error. This recall affects models manufactured between 2022 and 2026, as per the announcement made by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The issue stems from a software glitch related to the Battery Pack Control Module, which may be misinterpreted by the Hybrid Control Processor, causing a sudden loss of propulsion. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this malfunction poses a serious safety risk by potentially leading to a vehicle crash without prior warning. As of mid-August, Chrysler reported that it had not received any indications of accidents or injuries connected to this particular software error. Nonetheless, the company recognizes the urgency of addressing this defect and is actively developing a remedy. Vehicle owners affected by this situation can expect to receive notifications by October 23 regarding the steps they should take. Chrysler's parent company, Stellantis, has yet to provide additional comments about the recall to the media.
