Story

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Dallas Wings are poised to reintegrate star forward Satou Sabally into their lineup as she makes her season debut following recovery from a shoulder injury and participation in the Olympics with the German national team. The team announced on Wednesday that Sabally, along with Maddy Siegrist and rookie Jaelyn Brown, has been medically cleared to return to action as the WNBA resumes play after a month-long Olympic hiatus. The Wings faced significant roster challenges during the injury period, leading to the release of second-leading scorer Odyssey Sims and Monique Billings, who were on hardship contracts. Sabally, who was a 2023 All-Star, had been sidelined for all 25 games prior to the break but showcased her skills in Paris, averaging 18.8 points and 5.8 rebounds in four Olympic games. Brown, who played only in the season opener before suffering a nasal fracture, is also expected to be in uniform for the upcoming game against Connecticut. Siegrist, who underwent surgery for a broken finger, is anticipated to return next week. She had been averaging 14.6 points per game prior to her injury, a significant increase from her rookie season. Despite a promising playoff run last year, the Wings currently hold the WNBA's worst record at 6-19, trailing Chicago by 4.5 games for the final playoff spot. Sims, a veteran player, averaged 17.2 points and 5.6 assists in her nine games this season, while Billings contributed 8.8 points and 6.6 rebounds in 24 games. The Wings are looking to turn their season around with the return of these key players.
