Story

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys are facing a setback as offensive lineman Chuma Edoga is expected to be sidelined for at least a month due to a toe injury sustained during the preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams. This injury may pave the way for rookie first-round draft pick Tyler Guyton to take over the starting left tackle position as the team resumes practice at training camp, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. Edoga's injury occurred early in the game, preventing him from returning after the first offensive series in the Cowboys' narrow 13-12 loss. The team had already entered training camp with uncertainty surrounding the left tackle position following the departure of eight-time Pro Bowler Tyron Smith, who signed with the New York Jets in free agency. Guyton, selected 29th overall in this year's draft, was anticipated to develop into a key player for the offensive line. In addition to Guyton's potential promotion, McCarthy announced that rookie third-round pick Cooper Beebe will also receive first-team reps at center. Edoga's absence is a significant blow to the Cowboys' depth, as he has experience playing both guard and tackle, starting six games last season. Meanwhile, Brock Hoffman, an undrafted third-year player, has been taking most of the first-team snaps at center during the offseason and training camp. As the Cowboys adjust to these changes, Beebe's performance against the Rams has earned him the opportunity to work with the first team, highlighting the team's focus on developing young talent in the face of injuries.
