Perth residents were left puzzled after a series of loud booms were reported across the city, with many believing they were experiencing an earthquake. However, authorities have confirmed that the source of the noise was Republic of Singapore Air Force fighter jets conducting exercises off the coast of Western Australia. The jets were flying at supersonic speeds, which caused them to break the sound barrier, resulting in the sharp, explosive sounds heard by many. Geoscience Australia received numerous reports from residents around 11:20 AM, but no seismic activity was detected. Witnesses described the experience as akin to a massive object dropping or an explosion, with one resident from Hamilton Hill noting a brief tremor. Another individual from Port Kennedy reported that their house shook and loud bangs were heard, further illustrating the widespread impact of the noise. Some residents speculated about alternative explanations for the booms, including the possibility of a meteorite landing in the ocean.
