ScottsMiracle-Gro celebrates 365 days of safety in Fort Madison

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company's manufacturing facility in Fort Madison, Iowa, recently celebrated a remarkable safety achievement by maintaining a Total Recordable Incident Rate of zero for an entire year. This milestone, reached on September 12, 2024, signifies a commitment to workplace safety and reflects the dedication of the plant's employees. The achievement is particularly impressive, as it represents over 704,000 hours of work without any recordable injuries, equivalent to 352 full-time employees working for a year without incident. Brett Denney, the liquid operations director at the Fort Madison plant, attributed this success to the proactive risk reduction efforts implemented by front-line supervisors and line leads. Their disciplined approach to safety not only met but exceeded the company's safety goals for 2024. This collective effort underscores the importance of teamwork and vigilance in maintaining a safe working environment. David Swihart, the Senior Vice President of global supply chain for ScottsMiracle-Gro, emphasized the company's overarching commitment to the safety and well-being of all associates across its facilities. The Fort Madison plant's achievement serves as a model for other locations within the organization, promoting a strong safety culture where every employee looks out for one another. Since its establishment in 1999, the Fort Madison facility has employed over 200 full-time and 80 contingent workers, contributing to the local economy while prioritizing safety.
