Smith, who is ranked as the No. 47 receiver nationally and the No. 8 prospect in Illinois, was pursued by other schools, including Purdue and Iowa State, but ultimately chose Iowa. In the previous season, Smith showcased his talent by catching 59 passes for 906 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns. His recent performance included a touchdown catch in a game where his team only completed three passes, highlighting his ability to make an impact even in limited opportunities.
