Kamala Harris Chooses Tim Walz as Vice Presidential Pick
- Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen Tim Walz as her running mate.
- Eric Holder explains the reasoning behind this decision on MSNBC to Symone Sanders-Townsend.
- Tim Walz, the incumbent governor of Minnesota, is now in the spotlight as Harris's vice presidential pick.
In a recent interview with MSNBC's Symone Sanders-Townsend, former Attorney General Eric Holder discussed his role in leading the vice presidential vetting process for Vice President Kamala Harris. This marks Holder's first public appearance since his appointment, where he compared the current vetting timeline to his experience during Barack Obama's 2008 campaign. While the Obama vetting took approximately two to three months, Holder's team had a mere 15 days to finalize their selection. Holder assembled a team of around 70 lawyers from his firm, Covington & Burling, to assist in the rapid vetting process. They worked diligently to narrow down a list of 11 candidates to identify the best fit for Harris. Reflecting on the intense timeline, Holder expressed a sense of relief at the conclusion of the process, stating, "I hope we got everything," and noted that Harris's ability to choose from a pool of qualified individuals was a significant advantage. During the interview, Holder highlighted the qualifications of the final candidate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, emphasizing his military service, congressional experience, and teaching background. He expressed confidence in Walz's potential as a vice president, stating, "I think he would be a great vice president." Additionally, Holder addressed speculation regarding his own future role in a potential Harris administration, particularly the possibility of serving as her chief of staff, although he did not confirm any specific plans.
