LA City Council Looks at Tour Bus Limits Near Marilyn Monroe's Home

In a unanimous 13-0 vote, the Los Angeles City Council has approved a motion to investigate potential restrictions on tour buses operating around the Brentwood residence of iconic actress Marilyn Monroe. Councilwoman Traci Park introduced the motion, which directs the Department of Transportation to assess specific street segments for possible limitations on tour bus traffic, particularly on 5th Helena Drive and Carmelina Avenue. This initiative follows a contentious legal battle over Monroe's home, which the current owners sought to demolish last year. The couple, who own the adjacent property, initially received a city permit for the demolition, but it was later revoked. In response, they filed a lawsuit against the city in May, aiming to proceed with the teardown of the historic site. Monroe's Brentwood home holds significant cultural value, being the only residence she owned independently. In light of the ongoing dispute, Park had previously advocated for the home to be designated as a historical cultural monument, a designation that was ultimately granted by the City Council after extensive deliberation. Park emphasized the unique status of Monroe and her residence, stating, "There is no other person or place in the city of Los Angeles as iconic as Marilyn Monroe and her Brentwood home." The council's recent decision reflects a commitment to preserving the legacy of one of Hollywood's most enduring figures while addressing community concerns regarding tour bus traffic.
