Christopher Eccleston to Star in Guernsey Cold War Film

Former Doctor Who actor Christopher Eccleston is set to lend his voice to the character of East German radio presenter Herbert Köfer in the upcoming short film "Whispers of Freedom." This production, which tells the true story of Chris Gueffroy—the last person shot while attempting to escape to West Germany across the Berlin Wall—will be filmed in Guernsey, Berlin, and London. The film is being produced by Guernsey-based Golden Goat Films. Cameron Ashplant, who also stars in the film, expressed his excitement about collaborating with Eccleston, highlighting the significance of having such a renowned talent involved in a Guernsey film. He noted that Eccleston's participation is likely to attract international media attention to the local film scene, which is a positive development for the industry in the region. Director Brandon Ashplant shared his delight upon learning of Eccleston's interest in the role, emphasizing the actor's ability to bring "gravitas" to the character of Köfer, who was one of East Germany's few high-profile celebrities.
