In early 2025, British television broadcaster Sky officially launched its new Sky Glass Air TV series, expanding its lineup of streaming television options. This new series was anticipated following the announcement earlier in the year about a cheaper 'Air' model meant to make Sky TV more accessible. The Sky Glass Air series is designed particularly for consumers looking for an affordable way to enjoy Sky TV without the need for a satellite dish, underpricing its predecessor, the Sky Glass Gen 2, by about 50%. The new models come in three sizes: 43-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch, and feature stylish designs as well as options in Sea Green, Carbon Grey, and Cotton White. Each model is equipped with native 4K Quantum Dot HDR screens that support various HDR formats but omit higher-end features like local dimming and Dolby Atmos speakers due to cost-cutting measures. Instead, they rely on global dimming and standard Dolby Audio systems, making a soundbar a worthwhile investment for better audio quality. Despite these sacrifices, the Glass Air series maintains a sleek appearance and an enhanced user interface running on Sky's proprietary operating system. In addition to native channels, the TV provides access to popular streaming services such as Netflix and Apple TV, allowing users to enjoy a wide range of content without extra devices. Customers can purchase the TVs outright or opt for a monthly payment plan starting as low as £6, highlighting Sky's aim to cater to a broader audience with its pricing strategy. These developments come in conjunction with competitive Sky TV subscription packages, which begin at £15, allowing consumers to combine a new television with extensive viewing options, including access to thousands of hours of on-demand content. According to Carli Kerr, Managing Director of Sky TV, the rollout of Sky Glass Air reflects the company's commitment to providing high-quality technology at accessible prices, effectively adapting to consumer demands in a competitive market.
