- Bombay High Court to make a decision on Sachin Waze's potential release on August 23.
- Sachin Waze was arrested in 2001 in connection to the bomb scare at the Ambani house and the Mansukh Hiran murder case.
- The decision will have significant implications on the ongoing investigations.
The Bombay High Court is set to deliver a ruling on August 23 regarding the plea of dismissed police officer Sachin Waze, who has been incarcerated since March 2022 in connection with a corruption case involving former state home minister Anil Deshmukh. Waze's legal team argues that he should be released from prison as he has turned approver in the case, while other accused individuals have been granted bail. His attorney, Aabad Ponda, contends that Waze's continued detention violates his fundamental rights and seeks protection under the Maharashtra Witness Protection and Security Act, 2017. Waze's plea highlights that he is the only individual still in custody, despite the fact that the trial is unlikely to commence soon due to the other accused being out on bail. Ponda emphasized that, as an approver, Waze should not face charges or conviction, and thus should be released in accordance with Section 306(4) of the law. Waze's legal troubles began in 2001 when he was arrested by the National Investigation Agency for his involvement in a bomb scare at the Ambani residence and the murder of businessman Mansukh Hiran. Following investigations, the CBI and ED initiated cases against Deshmukh and others for corruption and money laundering, leading to multiple arrests, including Waze's. Despite being granted bail in the ED case, Waze's bail request in the CBI case was denied. The CBI court ruled that an approver must remain detained until the trial concludes to protect them from potential retaliation by co-accused individuals.
