Nokia and SK Broadband secure Korea's nuclear power from quantum threats

In Seoul, South Korea, Nokia and SK Broadband teamed up to deploy a quantum secure network focusing on the Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) infrastructure. This initiative, completed in August 2024, was designed to protect KHNP's leased line network, enhancing overall data security. As cyber threats evolve, especially with the rise of quantum computing, this partnership reflects the urgency in fortifying critical energy infrastructure against potential vulnerabilities posed by new technology. The deployment of quantum-safe MACsec technology marks a significant advancement in safeguarding against sophisticated cyber threats. The technology implemented includes state-of-the-art transmission equipment, interconnect routers, and service access systems, enabling KHNP to adapt and respond strategically to the evolving cyber landscape.
