Microsoft 365 Apps Facing Outages
- Microsoft has reported outages affecting some of its 365 apps.
- These issues arise less than two weeks after a separate incident involving CrowdStrike.
- The interruptions are part of ongoing challenges faced by major tech services.
Microsoft has reported significant disruptions to its 365 services, affecting popular cloud-based applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The company identified a potential networking issue and is actively working to resolve the problem. Users began reporting outages early Tuesday morning, with DownDetector showing a spike in complaints, particularly regarding Outlook. By Tuesday afternoon, Microsoft announced that its Microsoft 365 admin center and Azure cloud services were restored by 6 p.m. Eastern. This latest outage follows a previous incident less than two weeks ago, where a bug in a program update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike led to widespread disruptions. That glitch resulted in thousands of canceled flights and train services, significantly impacting various sectors, including healthcare and banking. The cumulative effect of these issues has raised concerns about the reliability of cloud services. In its update, Microsoft specified that the affected services included the Microsoft 365 admin center, Intune, Entra, and Power Platform. However, it reassured users that certain services, such as SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, and Exchange Online, were not impacted by the current outage. The company cautioned that customers using the affected services might experience latency or degraded performance. As Microsoft continues to address the networking issue, users are advised to monitor the situation for updates and potential service restorations.
