Jeff Bezos Interested in Buying Boston Celtics for $6 Billion

In a notable shift from his previous interest in acquiring the NFL's Washington Commanders, Jeff Bezos is reportedly considering a bid for the Boston Celtics, one of the NBA's most prestigious franchises. Sports commentator Bill Simmons has indicated that there is "legitimate buzz" surrounding Bezos's potential involvement in the bidding process, suggesting that the billionaire sees the Celtics as a valuable asset akin to purchasing a luxury yacht. The Celtics, valued as a "crown-jewel franchise," could attract significant interest from Bezos, who has the financial means to make such an investment. The Celtics' ownership has publicly announced plans to sell the team, citing "estate and family planning considerations." The expectation is that a majority stake will be sold by early 2025, with the remaining shares to be divested by 2028. Wyc Grousbeck, the current governor of the team, intends to maintain his leadership role throughout the transition, overseeing the sale of 51% of the franchise soon, followed by the remaining 49% in four years.
