Gemini app offers AI features for free and premium users
- Gemini is preinstalled on Google Pixel 9 phones and can be downloaded on older or non-Pixel devices.
- Users can interact with Gemini through various input methods and access different features based on their subscription status.
- While Gemini introduces new AI functionalities, it still lacks certain routines available with Google Assistant, leading some users to stick with the older platform.
In recent months, Google has launched its AI assistant, Gemini, which is designed to replace the existing Google Assistant. Gemini comes preinstalled on the new Google Pixel 9 phone, while users of older Pixel devices and non-Pixel handsets can download the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store at no charge. Users must sign in with a Google account to access the app's functionalities. While free users can utilize the limited version of Gemini, those willing to pay a monthly fee of $20 for Google One AI Premium can unlock the advanced version, Gemini 1.5 Pro, providing more extensive capabilities compared to the free 1.5 Flash model. Gemini allows for interaction through various methods, such as text input, voice commands, image queries, and live conversation features. Users can also integrate it into their everyday tasks like checking schedules and managing emails through Google services by using specific commands. Although Gemini is continually evolving and incorporates enhanced AI features, it currently lacks some of the advanced integrations available in Google Assistant, such as launching routines with a single command. As a result, users deeply embedded in the Google Assistant ecosystem may prefer to remain with it for the time being, despite the promise of Gemini’s capabilities.
