Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra secured a commendable second place at the Diamond League, thanks in part to advice from Kenyan athlete Julius Yego. The 26-year-old faced a challenging competition, initially ranking fourth after the fourth round. However, a season-best throw of 85.58 meters in his fifth attempt propelled him into the top three, followed by a final throw of 89.49 meters, which solidified his second-place finish behind Grenada's Anderson Peters, who achieved a throw of 90.61 meters. Chopra reflected on his performance, noting that he struggled with his mindset at the start of the event. He credited Yego's encouragement to "stay relaxed" as pivotal in helping him regain focus. "In the beginning, I did not think I will throw very far but in the end, it was good," he remarked, highlighting the importance of mental composure in competitive sports. Looking ahead, Chopra indicated that he might participate in one or two more competitions this season, potentially including the Diamond League finale in Brussels. His recent performance earned him seven points, bringing his total to 15 points in the Diamond League standings, where he is currently tied for third place with Weber. Czech athlete Jakub Vadlejch, who finished seventh in the recent event, holds the second position with 16 points. Chopra's journey continues as he navigates the remainder of the season, aiming to build on his recent success while managing his physical condition.
