Bissell is recalling approximately 3.2 million Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaners in the United States due to a potential burn hazard. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has identified that certain models, specifically the 39N7 and 2994 series, may expel hot water or steam during operation, posing a risk to users. In addition to the U.S. recall, around 355,000 units are also being recalled in Canada. The recall follows reports of 157 minor burn injuries linked to the product, with an additional 26 incidents reported without injuries. Bissell, a company with a 150-year history of producing trusted cleaning products, emphasized that consumer safety remains its top priority. The affected steam cleaners were sold at various retailers and online from August 2008 until May 2023. Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled steam cleaners immediately. Bissell has stated that these products cannot be repaired, but the company is offering affected customers a choice between a $60 credit towards other Bissell products or a $40 refund. To receive compensation, customers must follow specific instructions, including cutting the cord and submitting a photo of the model number and cut cord through a designated online form. The recall does not extend to any other Bissell products, and customers can expect to receive their credits or refunds within six weeks after submitting the required information.
