LILLINGTON, N.C. (WTVD) — A FedEx driver in Harnett County has been charged with animal cruelty following the tragic death of a French Bulldog named Tori, valued at $5,500. According to the Harnett County Sheriff's Office, the driver, Kimani Joehon Marshall, allegedly took Tori during a delivery and left her in his truck, where she succumbed to the heat. The incident has raised serious concerns about the treatment of animals during delivery operations. Investigators revealed that Marshall and Tori's owner were acquaintances, having previously discussed the possibility of breeding Tori with one of Marshall's dogs, a proposal that was ultimately declined. On July 3, Tori escaped from her yard, prompting her family to search extensively for her over the following days. Despite their efforts, Tori was found deceased by the sheriff's office on July 7, leading to suspicions surrounding her disappearance. Authorities believe that Marshall took Tori while on his FedEx route and kept her in his vehicle, where high temperatures led to her death. Following the investigation, Marshall surrendered to law enforcement on July 22 and was charged with larceny of a dog, possession of stolen property, and cruelty to animals. He is currently being held at the Harnett County Detention Center on a secured bond of $50,000. FedEx has issued a statement regarding the incident, emphasizing their commitment to animal welfare and the seriousness of the allegations against Marshall.
