Story

In Southern China, the Huangmaohai Link commenced its trial operation on December 11, 2024, marking a significant boost to transportation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Connecting Pingsha Town in Zhuhai to Doushan Town in Jiangmen, this new passage enhances the travel efficiency considerably, reducing the journey time from over an hour to a mere 30 minutes. Designed as a two-way, six-lane expressway, it caters to a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour and spans approximately 31 kilometers. The project is considered the world's largest three-tower cable-stayed highway bridge due to its remarkable engineering and aesthetic features. The construction of the Huangmaohai Link began in June 2020 under the supervision of the Guangdong Provincial Communication Group. It involved the collaborative efforts of 31 organizations and nearly 10,000 workers, who faced numerous challenges during its development, including frequent super typhoons. The completion of the project in just six years has been hailed as a reflection of the "Huangmaohai speed." Embedded in the project are two primary bridges: the Gaolan Port Bridge and the Huangmaohai Bridge. Characterized by slender waisted towers, these bridges not only serve a functional purpose but also offer an aesthetic visual that enhances the natural scenery of the region. Besides its infrastructural benefits, the Huangmaohai Link aims for ecological mindfulness. The passage has taken significant steps to bypass protected natural reserves while showcasing a harmonious coexistence with the surrounding environment, evident in the flocks of egrets that soar in conjunction with the bridge's path. Moreover, the project incorporates seven cutting-edge innovations aimed at maintaining structural integrity and minimizing vibrations, such as flutter suppression technologies. The culmination of this effort provides tourists with immediate access to local attractions in Jiangmen, which include historical watchtowers and eco-friendly parks. The completion of the Huangmaohai Link is a pivotal move in the ongoing development of a vast transportation network within the Greater Bay Area. Together with other major routes like the Huangpu Bridge, Nansha Bridge, and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, this network is set to transform the region into a global transportation hub. Through the integration of various industries, technology, culture, and tourism, the passage encourages deeper connections between the Greater Bay Area and western Guangdong. Overall, the Huangmaohai Link exemplifies effective urban planning, innovative engineering, and cultural stewardship, making it an emblematic achievement for the region.
