BOSTON - A woman sustained injuries in Downtown Crossing on Saturday when a portion of a sign fell and struck her while she was walking near the Corner Mall on Washington Street. The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m., prompting immediate medical attention. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, raising concerns among local residents about the safety of the area. Local resident Lori Glazer expressed her relief that the woman would recover but voiced her worries about the overall maintenance of the neighborhood. "It's scary that could have happened to me," she remarked, highlighting the need for better upkeep in a part of the city she believes should be well-maintained. Glazer lamented the decline of the area, stating, "This is the best part of the city, and they really need to take care of it." Another Boston native, Eric Moulton, echoed Glazer's sentiments, noting a general lack of maintenance in the city. He pointed out that the sign appeared to have fallen from a structure that seemed easily repairable, yet he felt the city was overwhelmed with repair needs. "The city's been falling apart for years, so I'm not even surprised," Moulton added, reflecting a growing frustration among residents regarding the state of urban infrastructure. The Boston Inspectional Services Department responded to the incident, but inquiries from WBZ-TV regarding their protocols for ensuring building safety have yet to be answered.
