Main Accused in Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case Sent to Judicial Custody
- Sanjoy Roy, the main accused in the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.
- The court proceedings were held under tight security with RAF deployment to prevent any untoward incidents.
- The legal process is underway to seek justice for the victim and bring the perpetrator to account.
Sanjoy Roy, the primary suspect in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody on Friday. The proceedings took place under heightened security at Sealdah court, with the Rapid Action Force (RAF) deployed to prevent any disturbances. The hearing was conducted in the judge's chamber rather than the courtroom, reflecting the sensitivity of the case. Roy, a civic volunteer, was arrested on August 10, following the tragic incident that occurred on August 9. Initially investigated by state police, the case was later transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after a court order. The CBI has expressed doubts regarding Roy's statements during the investigation and has sought permission from the court to conduct a polygraph test to ascertain the truth. CCTV footage has emerged as a critical piece of evidence, showing Roy entering the hospital's emergency building at 4 a.m. on the day of the crime. Notably, he was seen wearing a Bluetooth headphone upon entry, but the footage indicates that he left the building without it. This discrepancy raises further questions about his involvement in the case and the events that transpired during that early morning. As the investigation continues, the CBI aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the full extent of Roy's involvement in this heinous crime.
