- The news highlights the ongoing health struggles he faces, further complicating his legal battles.
Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, 72, has been hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19 and developing double pneumonia. Currently receiving treatment at Bellevue Hospital's prison ward in New York, Weinstein is also grappling with multiple health issues, including diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, and fluid accumulation in his heart and lungs, according to his representative and prison consultant, Craig Rothfeld. Weinstein's health has been a concern since he began serving his 23-year prison sentence following his 2020 conviction for sexual assault, which played a significant role in the global #MeToo movement. Earlier this year, he spent ten days at Bellevue Hospital, where his lawyer, Arthur Aidala, described him as "somewhat of a train wreck health-wise" but noted that he remains mentally sharp. In April, Weinstein's conviction was overturned by New York's highest court due to "egregious" judicial errors during the original trial, including the admission of testimony from women regarding unrelated allegations. Despite the overturning of this conviction, Weinstein remains incarcerated due to a separate 2022 conviction in Los Angeles for rape, for which he received a 16-year sentence. He is currently appealing this conviction while maintaining his denial of all allegations of rape and sexual assault.
