Activist Finds Error in India's Map on Government Website
- A Mumbai-based activist discovered an error in India's map on a government website.
- Parts of Jammu and Kashmir were missing, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands were completely absent from the map.
- The activist has reported the discrepancy to the Prime Minister's Office.
A significant discrepancy has emerged in the official map of India displayed on the Government of India (GoI) website, as highlighted by Mumbai-based activist BN Kumar. The map reportedly omits parts of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and entirely excludes the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Kumar has formally lodged a complaint with the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), emphasizing the inaccuracies present in the government’s representation of the nation. In his complaint, Kumar pointed out that the map on the official website, www.mygov.in, fails to include certain regions of Jammu and Kashmir, which he asserts should be recognized as integral parts of India. He has provided an official map that accurately depicts the entire territory of Jammu and Kashmir as part of the country, urging the PMO to rectify the discrepancies in the current map. The PMO has acknowledged Kumar's complaint, which has been assigned to an official named Mukul Dixit for further investigation. Kumar mentioned that he had previously consulted with a former senior PMO official, who indicated that "some proper guidelines were not followed" during the map's upload process. Additionally, Kumar has taken to social media platform X to raise awareness about the issue, tagging the PMO and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also noted that several global organizations, including the World Health Organization, consistently depict Pakistan Occupied Kashmir as excluded from the Indian map, further complicating the matter.
