Story

Prague – The Czech Republic will utilize part of the revenue from frozen Russian assets held in the European Union to procure ammunition for Ukraine. This decision, confirmed by Czech Defense Minister Jana Černochová, reflects the EU's commitment to support Ukraine amid ongoing military needs. While the specific amount allocated for this initiative remains undisclosed, the total funds from frozen assets are estimated at 1.4 billion euros (approximately 35 billion korunas). The Czech Ministry of Defense will oversee the acquisition of ammunition, which is intended to address urgent military requirements identified by Ukraine. Černochová emphasized that the ammunition deliveries are expected to commence in the coming months, although further details are being withheld to protect the integrity of the assistance provided to Ukraine. She noted that the initiative demonstrates the trust of allies in the Czech Republic's capabilities. To date, fifteen countries have joined the Czech initiative, which focuses on sourcing artillery ammunition for Ukraine, including contributions from nations outside the EU. The Czech Republic is collaborating primarily with the Netherlands and Denmark in this effort. The Czech government has already committed nearly 866 million korunas to the initiative, with plans to deliver 500,000 pieces of large-caliber ammunition to Ukraine by the end of the year. This move underscores the EU's strategic approach to leveraging frozen assets for military support.
