Israeli forces uncover explosives lab in Tulkarem

On June 4, 2025, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) conducted counter-terrorism raids in Tulkarem, a Palestinian city in the West Bank. During these operations, the IDF discovered and subsequently destroyed an explosives lab operated by Palestinian terrorist organizations. This lab was found to contain gas canisters and materials intended for the manufacture of explosive devices, including roadside bombs and pipe bombs, as well as equipment associated with the production of suicide drones. The military's announcement marks a significant escalation in its efforts to address security concerns in the region. The recent raids are a part of 'Operation Iron Wall', which the IDF initiated on January 21, 2025, aimed specifically at neutralizing threats posed by terrorist groups within Judea and Samaria. The operations became increasingly necessary following the failed bus bombings that occurred near Tel Aviv on February 20, where three empty buses exploded and further explosives were found on two more vehicles. This attack was suspected to be a coordinated act of terrorism, and one of the devices reportedly contained a note claiming it as 'revenge from the Tulkarem refugee camp'. Such escalating incidents prompted the Israeli military to intensify patrols and raids in the Tulkarem area to preempt further terrorist activities. In additional operations conducted by the IDF, Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), and Israel Police, various arrests were made targeting wanted terrorists throughout Judea and Samaria. Reports indicate that around 35 wanted individuals were detained, and significant quantities of firearms, military gear, and financial resources associated with terrorist activities were confiscated. In light of these developments, it has been reported that Palestinian terrorists targeted Israeli civilians in Judea and Samaria over 6,300 times since the beginning of the year 2024. These acts of aggression included various methods of attack, such as rock-throwing, arson, and shootings, leading to multiple casualties. The Israeli defense strategy is now undergoing significant changes to better tackle the instability and security challenges faced in these highly volatile regions.
