Indore selected for smart power grid upgrade initiative

In a significant move to enhance India's power distribution infrastructure, Indore has been selected for a smart grid initiative, which is part of a broader effort directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This initiative includes four other cities: Varanasi, Patna, Guwahati, and Delhi. The selection of Indore, the only city from Madhya Pradesh, highlights the government's commitment to modernizing urban power systems across the country. The smart grid project will involve the underground installation of power lines, which is expected to minimize power losses and reduce the frequency and duration of outages. This transformation is crucial for improving urban living conditions and supporting the rapid development of Indore, which is projected to have a population of 50 lakh in the next decade. The project will see the construction of 25 smart grids, creating a ring system for efficient power distribution. An advanced SCADA system will be implemented for real-time monitoring of the network, ensuring quick restoration of power in case of faults. The initiative is set to invest over Rs 2,000 crore, covering various aspects of the infrastructure upgrade. Madhya Pradesh West Zone Electricity Distribution Company has emphasized that this overhaul will significantly enhance consumer facilities and ensure a seamless power supply. The initiative marks a pivotal step in building a resilient and efficient power infrastructure in India.
