Brave soldiers defend Israeli army camp amid Hamas invasion

On October 7, 2023, during the early hours of the morning, Hamas launched a coordinated invasion against Israeli defenses, firing thousands of missiles. Camp Yiftach, located near Israel's northern border with Gaza, was caught off guard as it was on a relaxed Sabbath footing. Upon notification of a potential infiltration, they took a stand, managing to fight until they exhausted their ammunition, thereby hindering the advance of terrorists. Though they were ultimately overrun, their initial response made a significant impact against the wave of attackers targeting Israeli positions. Additionally, at Northern Erez command, a similar narrative unfolded. As soldiers within the base took cover from incoming rockets, Ofir Zioni and a fellow soldier ascended to the shoreline to dissuade a beach landing by Hamas fighters preparing to invade. Zioni, who stationed himself near a shelter, stood alone to confront and eliminate several terrorists until he was also killed in action. The report emphasizing these courageous acts also recognized the invaluable support provided by local civilians, such as the brothers of a cook who valiantly assisted in evacuating the wounded amid hostile fire.
