- This innovative technology is set to revolutionize the food truck industry.
A Bay Area startup has unveiled what it claims to be the first unmanned robotic mobile kitchen capable of preparing a full meal during delivery. The innovative kitchen operates like a factory machine, designed to cook meals in minutes. Charles Kim, Chief Operating Officer of Shin Star Presents, explained that the kitchen is currently preheating its wok to the optimal temperature for cooking. The mobile kitchen utilizes an app called Ohlso to initiate a network of automated cooking stations, or 'auto-woks', which stir-fry fresh ingredients sourced from an off-site kitchen in San Mateo. The inaugural dish from this robotic kitchen is Wagyu Kalbi, featuring short ribs marinated in a sweet soy sauce and accompanied by assorted vegetables. This venture comes at a time when the restaurant industry faces significant challenges, including a high employee turnover rate of approximately 75%, according to the National Restaurant Association. Jay Shin, co-founder of Ohlso Korean BBQ & Seafood, emphasized the goal of reducing turnover and enhancing operational efficiency through automation. Despite the fully automated nature of the kitchen, Kim asserts that the operation will still create jobs, as it requires personnel for system maintenance and ingredient preparation. Both Kim and Shin stress that the focus should remain on the quality of food rather than the technology itself. As the mobile kitchen delivers sizzling short ribs, it aims to redefine the intersection of food and robotics in the culinary landscape.
