A 33-year-old man from Metro Detroit has been convicted of coercing his 18-year-old girlfriend into performing a sexual act on a child and distributing child sexually abusive material. Following a bench trial, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Joseph Toia ruled against the defendant, identified as Burbridge, finding him guilty of aggravated distribution of child sexually abusive activity, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, and using a computer to commit a crime, which can result in up to 10 years of incarceration. The girlfriend, referred to as Lovely, also entered a plea related to child sexually abusive activity, facing a 25-year felony charge, along with using a computer to commit a crime, which could lead to a 20-year sentence. Additionally, she has been charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with multiple variables, which could result in a life sentence. Her sentencing is set for August 14, while Burbridge is scheduled for sentencing on September 4. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido emphasized the significance of the verdict and plea, stating that they ensure accountability for the defendants' actions against a child. He highlighted the importance of community safety, asserting that the conviction serves as a reminder that such crimes will not be tolerated. The case underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement and prosecutors to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable individuals within the community.
