Drake claims Universal Music Group boosts Kendrick Lamar's music unfairly
- Drake claims Universal Music Group manipulated streaming services to promote Kendrick Lamar's diss track.
- He alleges UMG engaged in unethical business practices, including terminating employees who supported him.
- Drake's ongoing legal battle could have implications for fairness in the music industry.
In a court filing submitted in late November 2024, Canadian rapper Drake, also known as Aubrey Drake Graham, brought to light serious accusations against his record label, Universal Music Group (UMG). The claims allege that UMG utilized a system of bots and under-the-table agreements to artificially inflate the streaming numbers of Kendrick Lamar's recent track, 'Not Like Us'. This alleged manipulation coincided with an ongoing rivalry between the two artists, exacerbated by damaging lyrics in Lamar's song. Furthermore, Drake contends that UMG has terminated employees who appeared loyal to him as a part of their tactics to suppress his music while promoting Lamar’s. Despite these grave allegations, a spokesperson for UMG declined comment, while Drake's and UMG's legal disputes seem poised to unfold in the coming months.
