Story

BOSTON - A shooting incident in Jamaica Plain on Monday afternoon has resulted in the arrest of a scooter driver, as police report that the victim is in critical condition. The shooting occurred around 2:37 p.m. at 245 Centre Street, following a ShotSpotter activation and a 911 call alerting authorities to the situation. Upon arrival, officers found a truck with three bullet holes in the driver's side and several evidence markers at the scene. Witnesses provided police with a description of the suspect, who was reportedly wearing all black and a mask while riding a scooter. Boston Police Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin confirmed that officers quickly acted on the information. "A description was given out of an individual on a scooter who was responsible for the shooting," he stated. The suspect was apprehended shortly after, about a mile away on Rockvale Circle, where a firearm was also recovered. The incident has raised concerns among local residents about safety in the area. Evan Holtom, a nearby resident who heard the gunfire, expressed his worries, stating, "Really sad, because this is such a pretty nice area. Train station right there. Kids. What if a kid got shot?" The community is now grappling with the implications of this violence and how to prevent future incidents that could endanger innocent lives.
