PepsiCo Launches Space-Ready Doritos for Astronauts
- PepsiCo launches special 'Zero Gravity' Doritos for space consumption.
- Chips designed to be eaten in space, enabling astronauts to snack while in orbit.
- Exciting collaboration between PepsiCo and SpaceX for space-friendly snacks.
In a bold move that aligns with its tagline, Doritos is set to launch a special edition of “Zero Gravity” Doritos, designed specifically for consumption in space. Chris Bellinger, chief creative officer of PepsiCo Foods North America, emphasized the inspiration drawn from the limitless possibilities of space, stating that this initiative showcases the brand's commitment to delivering unique experiences and flavors in unexpected environments. The new Cool Ranch Zero Gravity Doritos feature an innovative oil-based coating that replaces the traditional powdered topping, preventing dust from floating in the spacecraft. Additionally, the chips are produced in a mini size to reduce the risk of breakage, addressing concerns about space debris. Packaged in space-safe tins, these snacks are poised to be the ideal treat for astronauts during their missions. The Zero Gravity Doritos will make their debut on SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn mission, where private astronauts will conduct the first commercial spacewalk and reach unprecedented altitudes. This mission marks a historic moment as these astronauts will be the first to enjoy Doritos in space, potentially evaluating whether the flavors truly are "out of this world." In a philanthropic effort, Doritos is also donating $500,000 to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital to support childhood cancer research. For those on Earth, an Earthbound version of the snack will be available in a glow-in-the-dark tin, with a donation of $200 providing a chance to win this cosmic treat.
