Story

A California woman, Kennedy Lindsey, faces charges for bringing an array of weapons into the U.S. Capitol during the January 6, 2021, insurrection by supporters of then-President Donald Trump. Court records unsealed on Wednesday reveal that Lindsey was found in possession of a short sword, a steel tactical whip, a collapsible baton, pepper spray, a butterfly knife, and a flashlight taser when searched by a U.S. Secret Service officer. This incident is part of a broader crackdown, with over 1,400 individuals charged with federal crimes related to the Capitol riot. Lindsey traveled to Washington, D.C., with another woman after Trump called for a “wild” protest. She had posted on social media about her intentions to attend the rally, stating, “boss man called for us to be there.” Following the “Stop the Steal” rally, the two women made their way to the Capitol on a golf cart, where Lindsey recorded a video urging others to join the storming of the building, declaring, “We must do this as patriots.” The FBI affidavit indicates that a Secret Service officer noticed the sword strapped to Lindsey's leg, prompting the search. Lindsey later claimed the weapons were merely “tools” and admitted they were in her backpack upon entering the Capitol. After her arrest on July 28, she was released from custody. Attempts to reach Lindsey and her attorney for comments have so far been unsuccessful.
