Story

Oakland police have initiated a homicide investigation after a man was discovered fatally shot on MacArthur Boulevard late Thursday night. Officers responded to the scene around 11 p.m. following a ShotSpotter activation and a report of gunfire. Upon arrival at the 9000 block of MacArthur, near the Castlemont neighborhood, they found the victim with a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical assistance, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim, an Oakland resident, has not been publicly identified as authorities await notification of his next of kin. This incident marks the second homicide in East Oakland on Thursday and the third fatal shooting in less than a week. Earlier that evening, around 7 p.m., another man was killed in a shooting on Ney Avenue, where two additional victims, an adult male and female, sought treatment at Highland Hospital for their injuries. In a separate incident on Saturday morning, police responded to a ShotSpotter alert on 83rd Avenue, discovering four individuals with gunshot wounds, two of whom were also pronounced dead at the scene. The recent spate of violence has raised concerns, as both fatal shootings occurred within a five-minute drive of each other in East Oakland. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding these cases to reach out to homicide detectives at (510) 238-3821 or the tip line at (510) 238-7950. Additionally, the public is encouraged to submit any relevant videos or photos to assist in the investigations.
