A widespread outage of Gmail has left thousands of users unable to send emails or messages, with reports surfacing around 3 p.m. Thursday. According to DownDetector, a website that monitors online service disruptions, nearly 5,000 incidents were reported within the first hour of the outage. The majority of users, approximately 82%, indicated that their issues were related to sending emails, while 15% reported problems with server connectivity. Affected users encountered a red banner notification stating, “Message could not be sent. Check your network and try again.” An outage map revealed that the disruptions were felt nationwide, with significant concentrations in major urban areas, particularly New York City. This incident has prompted many of Gmail's over 1.8 billion active users to take to social media, sharing their frustrations and posting screenshots of the error messages, including the notorious “Oops, something went wrong” alert. As of 5:12 p.m. EST, DownDetector continued to receive reports, indicating that the issue was still affecting more than a thousand users. Despite the widespread impact, Google has not yet released an official statement regarding the outage and did not respond to inquiries from The Post. The situation remains fluid, and further updates are anticipated as the company addresses the ongoing issues.
