Eknath Shinde joins Swachhata Hi Seva drive at Girgaon Chowpatty

On Thursday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde participated in the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' drive at Girgaon Chowpatty in Mumbai. This initiative, launched by the Government of India, aims to enhance cleanliness and sanitation across the nation. The campaign encourages active citizen involvement in maintaining a clean environment, emphasizing the critical role of hygiene in public health. Shinde, along with other party members, engaged in a cleanliness drive, collecting waste in garbage bags to promote the cause. The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign was initiated by the Thane Municipal Corporation earlier in the week, with Shinde underscoring the importance of cleanliness in everyday life. He praised the cleanliness initiative started by Prime Minister Modi in 2014-2015, noting its success across the country, including Mumbai. Shinde expressed gratitude towards the cleaning staff, referring to them as the true youth of Maharashtra, highlighting their essential role in maintaining public hygiene. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, which has significantly influenced cleanliness efforts nationwide. The Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2024 is set to run from September 17 to October 2, aiming for widespread engagement from citizens, communities, and organizations. The campaign focuses on three key pillars: Cleanliness Target Units, public participation, and advocacy for cleanliness. The Department of Health Research, along with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and its 27 institutes, will collaborate to ensure effective participation during this fortnight. The initiative aims to foster a culture of cleanliness and hygiene, reinforcing the importance of community involvement in public health initiatives.
