Story

In Quetta, Pakistan, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, a senior leader of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), passed away at the age of 74 on March 19, 2025. His family confirmed that he had been suffering from kidney disease and had undergone dialysis in recent years, which led to his withdrawal from active politics. Born in 1951 into a prominent religious family, he was the son of Maulana Araz Muhammad, a respected Islamic scholar affiliated with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. Following his father’s death in 1973, he entered politics in Balochistan and gradually rose to national prominence within the party. He first became a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) in 1988 and later served as a senator during two separate terms from 1991 to 1994 and then from 2002 to 2007. Throughout his career, he held key roles in both JUI and the Pakistan National Alliance. His political journey reflected a commitment to the principles of his party as well as to the religious values instilled in him from a young age. On March 20, 2025, thousands mourned his passing during a funeral prayer led by his son at his madressah. The event brought together various political figures, including prominent JUI-F leaders and supporters, who paid their last respects as his body was laid to rest in Railway Graveyard, Quetta. Emotional scenes were witnessed as attendees expressed their grief over the loss of a respected leader. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq expressed their condolences and highlighted his contributions to Pakistani politics, recognizing the void his passing has left within the party and the broader political landscape.
