FRESNO COUNTY – A tragic accident occurred early Thursday morning when a toddler from Sacramento died following a car crash at a rest stop in Fresno County. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident took place shortly after 5 a.m. as a vehicle was exiting southbound Interstate 5 at the Coalinga Avenal Rest Area. The driver failed to navigate the curve of the off-ramp, leading the car to veer onto the dirt shoulder before colliding with a tree. A witness attempted to save the one-year-old passenger by performing CPR, but the child succumbed to injuries en route to the hospital. The driver, a 28-year-old woman, and a three-year-old boy were also hospitalized, but authorities confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. SACRAMENTO – In a separate incident, a driver lost their life in a three-vehicle collision in south Sacramento on Wednesday morning. The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Bruceville Road, just north of Sheldon Road, near a Jiffy Lube. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the driver sustained significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. Another individual involved in the crash was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive. The Sacramento Police Major Collision Investigation Unit is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, which resulted in road closures for several hours.
