LA Mayor to Borrow Buses for Car Games

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass addressed the challenges of traffic congestion in the city during a news conference in Paris, coinciding with the closing of the 2024 Olympics. She highlighted the city's historical reliance on cars and proposed a strategy to alleviate gridlock by collaborating with major employers to stagger work hours. Bass noted that this approach had been effective four decades ago and could be revisited, especially in light of lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic. The upcoming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles will feature various events across multiple venues, including SoFi Stadium, which will host the opening ceremony. Other sports will take place in locations such as Long Beach, which will accommodate handball, sailing, and artistic swimming, while equestrian events are set for Temecula, approximately 85 miles southeast of the city. Notably, softball and canoe slalom will be held in Oklahoma City, over 1,500 miles away, due to a lack of suitable venues in Los Angeles. Casey Wasserman, chairperson and president of L.A. 2028, emphasized the importance of authenticity in the upcoming Games, asserting that they will reflect the unique character of Los Angeles. The closing ceremony of the 2024 Olympics is expected to provide a glimpse of this vision, featuring performances by prominent American artists such as H.E.R. and Snoop Dogg. As preparations for the 2028 Olympics continue, the city is focused on addressing logistical challenges while ensuring a memorable and distinctly Los Angeles experience for athletes and spectators alike.
