Wadhurst Train Delays Continue Due to Flooded Signal Box

Train services in Kent and Sussex have been significantly disrupted due to flooding that occurred on Monday. The flooding affected a part of the signalling system around Wadhurst, prompting Network Rail engineers to investigate the situation. Their assessment revealed that heavy rainfall had caused water to partially flood the railway, leading to the failure of the signalling system. As a result, repairs could not be completed overnight, prolonging the delays into Tuesday. Southeastern Railway announced that only an hourly train service would operate between Hastings and Tonbridge throughout Tuesday. The operator indicated that a full service on the Hastings line could not be restored, and passengers should expect ongoing disruptions until the end of the day. This situation has left many commuters facing uncertainty regarding their travel plans. In light of the disruptions, passengers have been advised that they can use their tickets at no additional cost on select Southern, London Underground, and Southeastern high-speed services. This measure aims to provide some relief to those affected by the delays and to facilitate alternative travel options. The flooding not only impacted train services but also caused traffic disruptions across the South East, including the closure of an M25 slip road due to water accumulation. The combination of heavy rain and subsequent flooding has created a challenging situation for both rail and road users in the region.
