TARRANT COUNTY – The Tarrant County College South Campus buzzed with activity on Friday as thousands of students and families gathered for the 18th annual "Back-to-School Roundup." This volunteer-driven event has become a vital resource for the community, providing essential school supplies, vaccinations, and haircuts to students and their families. Attendees expressed gratitude for the comprehensive support offered, with many highlighting the convenience of having multiple services available in one location. Among the attendees was Sandra Epps, a grandmother who emphasized the importance of the event for families like hers. "The school supplies and the fact they offer the shots and the haircuts if need be," she noted, underscoring the event's role as a "one-stop" solution for back-to-school needs. The event not only alleviates financial burdens but also fosters a sense of community among participants. Students also shared their excitement about the upcoming school year. Heavena McDaniel, an incoming 7th grader, expressed her enthusiasm for receiving new school supplies while also admitting to feeling nervous about the transition to middle school. "I'm really excited about this back-to-school rally because we really need some school supplies," she said, reflecting the sentiments of many young attendees. The event, which ran from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 2, aimed to assist as many families as possible. Organizers announced that any leftover supplies would be available for unregistered families after noon, ensuring that the community's needs were met even beyond the initial registration.
